Would you like to escape with your family from the daily-life? Go with The Shelter and Woodkid on an adventure on the Dyle and Demer!

Disappear from civilization and enjoy the beautiful nature. Experience with your family an adventurous trip on the water and take part in several survival-activities!

What does the program of this trip look like?

Trip on the Demer:

During the two-day trip we start in Diest and end in Werchter with stops in Zichem, Aarschot and Betekom. 

We'll start the trip the first day around 10h and end the last day around 15h. Under guidance of an experienced canoe-instructor of The Shelter we'll start the trip with a short practice session to get to know the canoe. We'll continue our trip on the Demer which will take us passed meadows and small villages.

The overnight stay and cooking will take place on a nearby campside in Aarschot after the first day. Together with the instructors of Woodkid, who will introduce us in survival-cooking, we'll end the day with an exclusive evening-program! 

Sunday morning we'll continue our trip to Werchter. We'll arrive there around 15h which also means our weekend has come to an end.

Trip down the Dyle:

During the two-day trip we start in Korbeek-Dijle and end in Werchter with stops in Heverlee, Wilsele and Rotselaar.

We'll start the trip the first day around 10h and end the last day around 15h. Under guidance of an experienced canoe-instructor of The Shelter we'll start the trip with a short practice session to get to know the canoe. We'll continue our trip on the Dyle which will take us passed meadows, woods and through the centre of Leuven.

The overnight stay and cooking will take place on the grounds of a youthcentre near Wilsele after the first day. Together with the instructors of Woodkid, who will introduce us in survival-cooking, we'll end the day with an exclusive evening-program! 

Sunday morning we'll continue our trip to Werchter. We'll arrive there around 15h which also means our weekend has come to an end.

Who can participate? 

The trip is accessible for adventurous families from the age of 8 years old. You don't need to have any knowledge of canoeing but every member of your family needs to be able to swim. We ask for good guidance a minimum of one adult per two children.

To maintain the quality of this trip we've set the maximum number of participants on 50 people. The minimum number of participants is 20 people.

INCLUDED in the price: 

  • Guidance of experienced outdoor- and survival-instructors
  • Use of canoeing equipment (canoe + swimjacket + peddle + waterproof barrel) 
  • Demer: stay on a campside (tents included)
  • Dyle: stay in a youthcentre (building) 
  • Meals: 1x breakfast (sun), 2x lunch (sat & sun), 1x snack (sat) and 1x diner on a wood fire (sat)

Transportation to the startlocation and from the endlocation (more info during infosession!), personal material for overnight stay (tents excl.) and drinks are not included. 

Before the start of the weekend, you'll be invited to the infosession: THURSDAY 7 OF MAY 2020. During this infosession you'll receive an overview of the practical information and the full program to start well-prepared on the trip on the Dyle & Demer. 

We'll give you usefull tips about material and nutrition and are available in case of doubts or questions.

When does this trip take place? 

  • Expedition on the DEMER: Saturday the 16th of May 2020 and Sunday the 17th May 2020
  • Expedition on the DYLE: Saturday the 30th of May 2020 and Sunday the 31st May 2020
