Would you like to escape with your family from the daily-life? Go with The Shelter and Woodkid on an adventure on the Demer and Dyle!

Disappear from civilization and enjoy the beautiful nature. Experience with your family an adventurous trip on the water and take part in several survival-activities!

What does the program of this trip look like?

Trip on the Demer:

During the two-day trip we start in Diest and end in Werchter with stops in Zichem, Aarschot and Betekom. 

We'll start the trip the first day around 10:00am and end the last day around 3:00pm. Under guidance of an experienced canoe-instructor of The Shelter we'll start the trip with a short practice session to get to know the canoe. We'll continue our trip on the Demer which will take us passed meadows and small villages.

The overnight stay and cooking will take place on a nearby campside near Aarschot after the first day. Together with the instructors of Woodkid, who will introduce us in survival-cooking, we'll end the day with an exclusive evening-program! 

Sunday morning we'll continue our trip to Werchter. We'll arrive there around 3:00pm which also means our weekend has come to an end.

Trip on the Dyle:

During the two-day trip we start in Korbeek-Dijle and end in Werchter with stops in Heverlee, Wilsele and Rotselaar.

We'll start the trip the first day around 10:00am and end the last day around 3:00pm. Under guidance of an experienced canoe-instructor of The Shelter we'll start the trip with a short practice session to get to know the canoe. We'll continue our trip on the Dyle which will take us passed meadows, forests and through the city of Leuven. 

The overnight stay and cooking will take place on the terrain of a youth centre near Wilsele after the first day. Together with the instructors of Woodkid, who will introduce us in survival-cooking, we'll end the day with an exclusive evening-program! 

Sunday morning we'll continue our trip to Werchter. We'll arrive there around 3:00pm which also means our weekend has come to an end.

Who can participate? 

The trip is accessible for adventurous families from the age of 8 years old. You don't need to have any knowledge of canoeing but every member of your family needs to be able to swim. We ask for good guidance a minimum of one adult per two children.

To maintain the quality of this trip we've set the maximum number of participants. The minimum number of participants is 20 people.

INCLUDED in the price: 

  • Guidance of experienced outdoor- and survival-instructors
  • Use of canoeing equipment (canoe + swimjacket + peddle + waterproof barrel) 
  • Demer: stay on a campside (tents included)
  • Dijle: stay on a youth centre terrain (tents included)
  • Meals: 1x breakfast (sun), 2x lunch (sat & sun), 1x snack (sat) and 1x diner on a wood fire (sat)
  • Transportation of luggage

Transportation to the startlocation and from the endlocation (more info during infosession!), personal material for overnight stay (tents excl.) and drinks are not included. 

Before the start of the weekend, you'll be invited to an (online) infosession (dates available after registration). During this infosession you'll receive an overview of the practical information and the full program to start well-prepared on the trip. 

As organizer of the Family Expedition, The Shelter and Woodkid respond to the taken measures in the battle against COVID-19 so they can guarantee the safety of participants and guides during the trip. More information will be given after registration and during the infosession. 

We'll give you usefull tips about material and nutrition and are available in case of doubts or questions.

When does this trip take place? 

  • Expedition on the DEMER: Saturday 1st of May 2021 and Sunday 2nd of May 2021
  • Expedition on the DEMER: Saturday 17th of July and Sunday 18th of July 2021
  • Expedition on the DYLE: Saturday the 21th of August 2021 and Sunday the 22nd of August 2021

How do I register my family? 

What is the weekend can't take place due to COVID-19 measures?

If the Family Expedition can't take place, you'll receive a voucher for the paid amount:

Option 1. This voucher can be used for the registration in another weekend (with free places) in the following holiday period 2021 or the following year 2022 until one year after the registration date.  

Option 2. This voucher will be divided into two amounts with each amount available for booking separate activities at The Shelter and Woodkid until one year after the registration date.
