Week of Water - Kano Clean-Up
Canoe Clean-Up & Nature Walk
Let’s Clean Up the Dijle Together!
On March 28, 2026, The Shelter and Natuurpunt Bertem are joining forces for a big spring clean-up on the water. As part of the Week of Water (VMM) and the MooiMakers campaign by the municipality of Bertem, we’ll arm ourselves with paddles and litter pickers!
The Program:
1. The Big Clean-Up (on the water)
We depart by canoe from The Shelter in Korbeek-Dijle. Equipped with litter pickers, we’ll remove cans, bottles, and other waste from the Dijle along the way. Together, we’ll help ensure a clean river flowing towards Leuven.
2. Arrival at Arenberg Castle
Our sporting effort ends at the iconic Arenberg Castle in Heverlee — a beautiful setting to catch our breath after our clean-up action!
3. Engaging Return Trip (on foot)
We’ll walk back together to the starting point. During the walk, the team from Natuurpunt Bertem will share fascinating stories about the Dijle, the unique plants and animals in the valley, and the rich history of the area.
